Korea & China trip – from a kids perspective

Traveling with kids

I can’t believe that it was a year ago already that we boarded the plane and headed over the Pacific Ocean to China and then Korea!

The kids were determined that they wanted to go and see their Halmoni and had brainstormed fabulous ideas for making money to pay for the tickets.  We had a garage sale, the kids collected pop cans, we brought things to the scrap metal depot and they had lemonade stands.  Kyah even wrote letters to the major airlines asking for assistance.  The kids helped raise over $2000 in the Korea fund towards the trip and that experience made the big event even more meaningful for us all!

After the trip, Kyah put together a power point presentation for her grade four class. The teacher let her share the highlights of the trip including things she thought were interesting and unusual.

Top 3 recipes – 2014

It is that time of year when we get to look back and review the year.  What a great year it was!  Here are a few highlights for me and my family:

We worked really hard and saved up money to go to Korea in March! The boys had never been to Korea or met their Halmoni, grandmother, so it was a really special trip!

We also acquired a fabulous vintage motor-home, a 1969 Shasta,  who we lovingly named Peggy.  My talented sisters helped me redecorate her (they sewed and I cooked) and we had wonderful camping experiences in Peggy with friends and family this summer.

I continued working here on my blog making yummy food, reviewing restaurants and writing funny (or not so funny) comics about our life.

So, what were the top 3 recipes from Korea in my kitchen in 2014?  These were the most searched and viewed from the blog.

Street food in Korea (and China)

I love street food.  One of the reasons I was so excited to go back to Korea, besides visiting family and showing the kids their father’s homeland, was to eat lots and lots of street food… and we did!

This is a typical food stand in Seoul.  You can enjoy kimbap, spicy rice cakes and all kinds of deep fried yumminess here.

We also discovered a savoury pancake sold on the streets that was stuffed with noodles and veggies.  We had to try those as well!

Nothing beats eating on the street with cousins!

We also ate lots of different foods on a stick – bbq’ed chicken, deep fried chicken, and sausages to name a few. Unfortunately I forgot to take pictures 🙁 Now to try and make a few of these myself.
